The Lake Garden Area is very peaceful and beautiful. The Parliament
House overlooks it. One can find the Bird Park, the Hibiscus Garden,
the Butterfly Park and the Deer Park and also find an Islamic Arts
Museum within. The Railway station is definitely something very
unique to set your eyes on with its Moorish and Edwardian architectural
styles and has a Malaysian twist to the design.
The Colonial part of the city will be well worth a visit. Make
sure to see the Supreme Court or the Sultan Abdul Samad Building,
which is very Moorish and elongated and salmon coloured. This is
the place where more photographs are taken than anywhere else in
Kuala Lumpur and its here beside the clock tower that most local
celebrate that annual National Parade.
Over the roadway is the Dataran Merdeka, or what is also known as
Independence Square with its lovely water fountain, the flower beds
as well as an underground epicurean and entertainment centre. Watch
out for the Selangor Club which was the main communal centre for
the colonial society back then, as well as the Cathedral of Virgin
St. Mary which is the patriarchal Anglican church in Malaysia and
these buildings give one an insight into the colonists way of life
at the start of the century. Jamek Mosque is the patriarchal Mosque
in Malaysia and is right behind the SAS building and is well worth
a visit.
