Considered a shoppers paradise, Kuala Lumpur offers a huge choice
of goods, from the traditional hand crafted products to the major
designer and fashion labels all for reasonable prices and the prices
are even lower than a lot of Asian cities. One needs at least three
days for a good shopping tour of the city.
If one has only one day to go shopping, then try out the Light
Rail Train system. For the worry free consumerism that takes place
under the one roof or complex, and to see all the fashionable places
and get a glimpse of what most locals do with their spare time.
Make your way to the station in the centre and within the area is
the leading shopping mall, the Suria located by the sub-ground walkway.
The Suria is boundless shopping mall that is very alluringly decorated
with marble floors and stunning design.
Its located right near the foot of the Petronas Towers, and has
up market shops like Marks and Spencers, Burberry and the likes
of Hogo Boss, Polo and many many more alongside world renowned jewellers
such as Tiffany & Co. The expats generally the people with money
in their back pockets shop here while people interested in hunting
bargains go elsewhere. In saying this, this shopping centre is well
worth paying a visit even if you don't intend to buy anything.
There is also Aseana on the base level which has lots of Malaysian
gifts and memento which range from hand crafted jewellery as well
as locally made silks, wraps and sarongs. With two fantastic food
halls and lots of fast food outlets to keep your energy levels peaking
to keep on shopping. Maybe take a few minutes outside the building
to wonder at the tallest twin towers in the world.
More Places to Shop
Next on the agenda is the Mid Valley Mega Mall (Mutrajaya),
which is at the moment the biggest Shopping Malls in all of South
East Asia. In order to get to the Mid Valley Mega mall you can take
either Light Rail System (LRT) to Bangsar station and take bus no.
5 or a taxi which are very cheap in Malaysia. This trip lasts 10
minutes and this Mega Mall is comparable to Suria's, but the place
is so gigantic that one can lose ones way and get lost. The Mega
Mall has so much to offer and has more retail outlets than the Suria·s
Mall. The Hypermarket Carrefour is here as well as other retail
outlets by the name of Metrojaya and Jaya Jusco. There is also an
18 screen cinema here that offers Bollywood as well as Hollywood
along with Chinese films. The MPH Bookstore here has also a free
reading section.
When finished here, get back on the Light Rail System (LRT) and
make your journey towards the Sunway Pyramid. The closest station
is Kelana Jaya, which is the last station on the southbound line.
This 20 minute journey brings you through a good part of suburban
Kuala Lumpur and is also 20 foot above the ground. When you arrive
at the last stop, you get onto the feeder bus that brings you to
Subang Jaya.
Sunway Pyramid
Sunway Pyramid is well worth the visit, even if you just want
to see the architecture of the Egyptian style facade. There are
about 250 retail outlets as well as a 48 lane bowling centre as
well as a great ice skating rink which is usually full of teenagers.
Also here is the popular theme park, the Sunway Lagoon which stays
open up till 10pm. The park closes on Tuesdays.
On the way back at the Taman Jaya station one can disembark to
visit the Amcorp Mall which is also a big hit, but especially on
Sundays when there is a massive flea market that has all sorts of
goods on display as well as pre used domestic items. This market
is well worth a visit.
